Why H2SCORE

why h2score

H2SCORE demonstrates how the integration of fuel cells and hydrogen technologies into renewable energy communities (RECs) can support their resilience and ability to be self sustaining.

RECs support the local decarbonisation of the energy system and work to mitigate energy poverty, but they depend from inherently variable and intermittent sources of renewable energy generation.

Fuel cell and hydrogen technologies – and in particular Power-to-Hydrogen-to-Power (P2H2P) systems – represent one of the most promising solutions to support stability and self sufficiency, hence the success of the RECs.

Integrating P2H2P solutions within RECs, H2SCORE aims to create a powerful synergy between decentralised renewable generation and hydrogen-based flexibility, enabling:

  • Energy Storage & Flexibility

Storing renewable energy and supplying power when needed.

  • Higher Self-Consumption

Using more locally generated renewable energy within the community.

  • Clean Heating & Mobility

Supporting the decarbonisation of local heat and transport systems.

  • Energy Autonomy

Strengthening local independence from fossil fuels.
